Taupo Language offers an extensive range of English language courses for all abilities, from beginner to exam English. Along with Part-Time and Full-Time programmes we provide a number of specialty courses, including those aimed at IELTS or Cambridge examination preparation, Pre-Secondary and sporting or activity combinations.
Our teachers are highly qualified and have many years of teaching ESL experience. The classes are small with a maximum of 10 students per class (average of 7) which enables more teacher time. All students sit a placement test on their first day to ensure that they are in a class with others of similar ability.
Weekly tests and written homework are to be expected. Because only English is spoken in the streets of Taupo, the students quickly adapt to an English only environment.
General English morning class is from 9:00 - 12:15, Monday to Friday. Afternoon class is from 13:15 - 15:25, Monday to Friday. The school is closed on NZ public holidays.

Full Time English (2 weeks+)

Part-Time English (4 levels) (2 weeks+)
- 15 hours English per week (9:00-12:15, Monday to Friday).
- Suitable for students who wish to pursue their favourite afternoon activities, e.g.shopping, golf, fishing etc. and become fluent in English over a longer period of time.
- Students select their own afternoon adventure activities on a "pay as you go" basis or have free time.
- 2-50 weeks duration.
- ONE FREE adventure activity is rewarded per month of enrolment for punctuality, participation and achievement.

Cambridge / TOEIC / IELTS Courses (12 weeks+)
Taupo Language offers preparation courses for the following internationally recognised exams. Students working towards these qualifications take the morning class at their level and the afternoon class which focuses on specific examination skills development. The entry level is intermediate. The exam classes are continuous throughout the year
- FCE and CAE Cambridge Examinations. The University of Cambridge Certificate examinations are widely known and accepted throughout the world. For further information, a list of exam dates and costs please contact us or see www.englishexams.net.
- TOEIC. Taupo Language is a TOEIC testing Centre. For further information, dates and costs, email us.
- IELTS. IELTS is widely accepted as a prerequisite for the University and Polytechnic entrance examinations in New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom and Canada. It is also required for permanent residency in New Zealand. The IELTS examination evaluates the student's reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. There are two levels, General and Academic, both of which are available at Taupo Language. The exam can be sat most Saturdays, however it is necessary to book at least 2 weeks in advance. Usually IELTS requires a minimum of 12 weeks of exam and technique practice. See further information here.

Pre-Secondary School Course (for students 13-17 years old)
- Prepares teenagers for New Zealand secondary school socially, academically and culturally.
- 25 hours of class per week. 21 hours of general and conversational English + 4 hours of afternoon school preparation classes, mathmatics and science.
- Assistance with secondary school placement is provided for $50.00 per hour + travel expenses. Students need to consider if they would like a private or state school, mixed or single gender, a large city or small town and boarding or homestay.
- All students recieve a monthly report detailing their maths and science subjects and results, their English test results, performance indicators for speaking, reading writing, vocabulary and grammar, homestay comment monthly their class teacher's comments and attendance.
- The teacher has an interview with the student on a monthly basis to discuss their results and set new goals.
- Students must intend to enrol in a Secondary school.
- 12 - 50 weeks duration
- One FREE adventure activity is rewarded per month of enrolment for punctuality, participation and achievement.

Specialty Courses
Full Time English + Adventure Activities
- 15 hours of general English + 5 adventure activities per week including equipment hire, transport, passes and instruction (excludes any clothing hire).

Full Time English + Adventure Activities Combo Course
- 2 weeks of Full-time English + 2 weeks of English and adventure activities = 10 activities taken at any time over the 4 weeks. There is 5 hours of English study on non-activity days.
- This course is suitable for the older students, who need more English but still want to have a lot of FUN!
4 week Combo Course Fee = $2,380
Parent and Child Programme
- Part or Full time English for the parent, while the child or children study at a Taupo Elementary school or day care.
- Under 5 year old children are enrolled in the local day care for a duration of 2 - 50 weeks.
- Over 5 year old children are enrolled at an elementary school for a preferred duration of 10 weeks.
- Accomodation over 12 weeks is recommended to be a rental house or apartment.
- Accomodation under 12 weeks is recommended to be with a Taupo home stay family.

Private Tuition
- Suitable for students who want further teaching outside of regular class hours, or who need specific skills.
- Subject to availability.
- Maximum of two students in a class, and they must be of the same ability.

Snow Lover's Special (June - October)
- Ski or Snowboard as many days as you would like to at Mt. Ruapehu, New Zealand's largest ski resort.

English & Golf
- The perfect way to reduce your golf handicap while improving your English.
- Students study 15 hours of morning English classes, then are transported to the Taupo Golf Club by the school in the afternoon.

- In one week students get 1 hour of PGA coaching and unlimited use of the two 18 hole course at the Taupo Golf Club.
- For the more competitive players, there is a local womens'competition on Tuesday mornings and the men's on Wednesdays.
- Juniors are coached on a Thursday afternoon with a competition on Sunday mornings.

English & Unlimited Golf
- For the long term student who would like to play golf and study English, we can offer an internation golf membership at Taupo Golf Club (www.taupogolf.co.nz) for the duration of their English Study.
- Student's clubs can be stored at the Taupo Golf Club in a rental locker ($20.00), and rental trundles are also available.
- Transport and equipment is not included

English + Rugby (March - August)
- Students can join a local rugby team and play rugby three times per week.
- Training is usually on Tuesday and Thursday by a registered coach, and the game is usually played on a Saturday morning.
- All students have to join the NZRFU, the price depends on their age (www.nzrugby.co.nz).
- Students need to bring their own boots and training clothing, the team uniform is borrowed. Transport to the Saturday game is not included.
- Suitable for 14-18 year olds.

Group Programmes
- We accept groups in our low seasons (February - May and September - December).
- We can design an English course for your specific group, size, age, English ability and activity preference.
